Dear Parents,

On Monday, February 8th, there was a major Health project assigned. Mrs. Torrise, our Media Specialist, along with Health teachers Craig Etheridge and Dayna Crawford, explained the purpose and format of this assignment. Mrs. Torrise established a wiki space and showed students how to navigate the site for the project.

In the first week of February, all Health classes discussed different types of media and advertising techniques, and the impact that they have on people. A comparison was then made to show the difference between commercials and public service announcements (PSA). Why is this important? Because students will now have to create a public service announcement.

Following the explanation of the project, students were to pick groups of two to four. Group members then needed to decide which topic they wanted to cover for their PSA.

Ultimately the project is DUE May 17th, but there are assignments due weekly to guide the students to the final product. By chunking the work weekly, we hope that these guidelines will help the students focus their attention and lead to greater success. The first assignment is due on February 16th. A worksheet can be found on the web site. EACH student will need to find 10 facts relating to the group topic, note the facts, and also cite the website and URL address.

I have included the web site for your reference as well. I would ask that you pay special attention to the Project Description and DEADLINES.
